Project Leader, “Illuminating Theological Inquiry and Christian Ethics Through Training in Psychological Science,” John Templeton Foundation, 2023-2025

An interdisciplinary team of Baylor University researchers in psychology, religion and bioethics will explore how to tackle the complex problems of human flourishing by training theologians to incorporate the methods and insights of the psychological sciences into their work through a $2.5 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation.

Co-Principle Investigator, “Disability Pedagogy: Mapping the Lay of the Land,” Wabash Center, 2021-2023

The aim of this grant is to put together a working group of scholars and students working in disability theology to explore how we can incorporate this field into the research and curriculum of religion departments and theological school across the United States. The group will meet over two years to explore possibilities and challenges for this work.

Principle Investigator, “Dementia: Determining the Capacity Necessary to Designate a Surrogate,” Texas Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, 2020-2023

The aim of this grant is to validate an innovative instrument that will assess dementia patients’ capacity to designate a surrogate. We will test the reliability and validity of the CDS instrument, by interviewing patients with dementia who do and do not have decision making capacity to make their own medical decisions.
